MHA vide their circular No. 26011/06 dated January 29, 2015 OCI (Vol.III) dated September 22, 2017 mentioned that from October, 2018, ICAO will accept only machine readable travel documents, hence, existing PIO Cards, which are handwritten will therefore, become invalid. Thus, it will be necessary upon PIO Cardholders to obtain machine readable OCI Cards in lieu of existing hand written PIO Cards. Competent Authority has granted extension of time for re-issuance of OCI cards till 30.6.2021.

 2. OCI Cardholder registration is required to be reissued each time a new passport is issued up to the age of 20 years of age and once after completing 50 years of age in view of biological changes in the face of the applicant.

 3. It has also been decided that, subject to MHA's extant guidelines regarding entry of OCI cardholders in India, such cardholders will be allowed to travel on the strength of their existing OCI cards bearing old passport number, subject to the condition that the OCI cardholder will have to travel along with both old and new passports.
