Celebration of the 24th Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day

    The Embassy of India, Kathmandu celebrated the 24th  Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day on 20 March 2026 with participation of 200 students, who have been selected for the Golden Jubilee Scholarship 2025-26. 

2.    Dr. Achyut Wagle, Vice Chancellor, Kathmandu University; Dr. Amar Prasad Yadav, Vice Chancellor, Rajarshi Janak University; Dr. Biju Kumar Thapalia, Vice Chancellor, Purbanchal University; Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, Vice Chancellor, Mid-Western University; Dr. Bikram Prasad Shrestha, Vice Chancellor, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences; Dr. Binod Prasad Dhakal, Vice Chancellor, Lumbini Technological University; and Prof. Bed Raj K.C., Vice Chancellor, Pokhara University, graced the event with their presence. Deans, Registrars of various institutes, and Principals of eminent schools of Nepal also attended the program.

3.    The third batch of meritorious Golden Jubilee scholars were awarded Ambassador’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship Roll of Honour by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava.

4.    In his remarks, Ambassador Srivastava congratulated the awardees of the 24th Batch of Golden Jubilee Scholarship scheme as well as the meritorious students of the Third edition of Ambassador’s Roll of Honour. He also highlighted new initiatives being introduced in this context such as the India–Nepal Start-up Partnership Network (IN-SPAN), which aims to bring together young entrepreneurs, foster collaboration, and cultivate a strong culture of innovation and enterprise in both countries.

5.    The Golden Jubilee Scholarship was established in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of India-Nepal economic cooperation. Over the years, the number of scholarship recipients has increased to 200 annually. More than 3,700 Nepali students from all 77 districts of Nepal have benefitted from this scholarship scheme. The current batch of scholarship awardees have  been drawn from 75 districts of Nepal, with about 40% of the scholars being girls. The scholarship recipients also include differently-abled students.

6.    The Government of India annually offers approximately 1,500 scholarships to Nepali students across a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, medicine, dental science, management, commerce, nursing, ayurveda, homeopathy, yoga, as well as dance, theatre, and other performing arts. These scholarships enable students to gain access to premier educational institutions in India, supporting their pursuit of undergraduate studies in Nepal as well as undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in India. Since 2001, more than 40,000 Nepali students have benefited from various scholarship initiatives of the Government of India.

7.    Educational cooperation, capacity building, and academic partnerships between India and Nepal continue to strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two countries. These initiatives foster meaningful connections and serve to enhance people-to-people ties. Scholarships and capacity-building programmes remain a cornerstone of India’s commitment to support human resource development in Nepal, contributing to shared progress, knowledge exchange, and mutual prosperity.
